Player Bio

Alex Barbir is a kicker from South Forsyth that has gained a large amount of attention for being one of the best long-distance field goal kickers in the country. Since starting for the War Eagles, the junior has shattered county and region records for longest-made field goals in history, the most notable performance coming on Oct. 10 against Northview when the standout made all four of his field goal attempts, including one from a region-record 56 yards out. Barbir began drawing the awe of onlookers for his golden boot as a sophomore where he sent 45 of his 55 kickoffs out of opposing end zones for touchbacks. That only played a small part of the standout’s exemplary season, culminating in All-Region and All-County honors. 2014 provided similar results with Barbir as he gained All-Region and All-County honors while South Forsyth made the state playoffs for the first time since 2010. His track record of success has drawn interest from schools across the country such as Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Clemson and Florida State while also having received an offer from Army. Like his foreign-kicking contemporaries, the Romanian-born Barbir gained interest in kicking on the pitch where Alex played soccer growing up. As time went on, the kicker decided to move his efforts from being a goal-scoring threat into a kicking machine after encouragement from his middle school football coach Philip Duplantis. Success in athletics is nothing new for the Barbir bloodline as his cousin, Danny, is a highly-touted soccer player that currently plays in the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion F.C. along with being a member of the U.S. Men’s National Team. Aside from football, Alex participates in Flood Ministries, a student community organization focused on having students participate in mission opportunities in the community and has previously spent time in serving to the homeless. The Romanian-born Barbir currently holds a 3.5 core GPA and plans to study in either Criminal Justice or Law and History. Yet, his short-term future seems destined to involve kicking at the Division-I level.
