Bryson Armstrong is a linebacker from Kell High School who proves that a player with instincts plays just as well as one with all of the talent in the world. The 6-foot, 190-pound junior possesses a high football IQ, above-average awareness and aggression that allows him to be a consistent playmaker on the defensive side of the ball. Since starting for the Longhorns late in his freshman season, he has helped to anchor a defensive unit that has allowed only 17.7 points per game during his time on the varsity squad. He emerged as a defensive force as a sophomore while helping to lead the Longhorns to the state semifinals for the first time in school history. Armstrong recorded 145 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, three interceptions and seven pass breakups. The now-junior also saw time at receiver, catching 18 passes for 251 yards and four touchdowns. He was awarded second-team All-State honors which greatly exceeded his own expectations going into the 2013 season. This motivated him to strive to improve from that great year and take it into 2014. His junior campaign proved to be another solid season for Armstrong as he logged 95 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss, three sacks and an interception while Kell recorded its third-straight ten-win season. He attributes his production to the large amount of time spent studying film on opposing teams in preparation for upcoming games which allows him to anticipate and make plays with regularity. The junior maintains solid grades in the classroom with an accumulated GPA of 3.0 and occasionally finds time to work with the Miracle League, an organization that allows children with disabilities to experience and play the game of baseball. Armstrong enjoys participating in the cause due to the excitement and happiness that it brings to the participants’ faces. Around Christmas time, he takes part in an effort that buys underprivileged kids one gift from a local toy store. Armstrong has found success on the gridiron due in part to a tireless work ethic and film study and has a great chance to reach that high level of production at the next level.
