David Marshall is a standout defensive lineman from Upson-Lee High School that has emerged as a top recruit at his position. The 6-foot-4, 265-pound junior is an enforcer in the trenches that uses his tremendous quickness and explosiveness to blow up plays with regularity behind the line of scrimmage. Marshall is widely considered a true two-gap player whose size allows him to stuff the running game. Something that has been realized by Upson-Lee head coach Tommy Parks, who has mentored many Division-I players in his career. Yet, he feels that David has the chance to be one of the most special. Marshall is considered a four-star recruit by various scouting services and has been offered by numerous schools across the country including Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, Ole Miss, and North Carolina State have all offered the big man. The defensive lineman’s athleticism is not limited to the gridiron as the junior has previously played on Upson-Lee’s baseball and basketball teams, and competes in the shot put on the track and field squad. Coach Parks thinks that Marshall’s size and potential will allow to continue gaining weight and build upon his dominance as he fine-tunes his skills. The defensive lineman possesses big hands and is very mobile for his size, having been clocked with a 4.9-second 40-yard dash. His flexibility is continuing to improve, allowing him to be more agile when working against offensive linemen. David is a soft-spoken leader that leads by example on the field, but is not afraid to be vocal when appropriate. His head coach is a big fan of the four-star recruit, raving about Marshall’s drive to improve and his strong work ethic. However, it was a work ethic that Marshall developed thanks the support of his uncle, grandma, and coaches. Despite already being considered as one of the top recruits in the state, the junior continues working to reach the next level in his ability and fully realize his potential. With the makeup that Marshall possesses, he can become one of the best players in the state of Georgia to come out of the Class of 2016.
