Player Bio

Playing at the winningest school in the nation may scare off some players due to the bright spotlight, but quarterback Seth Shuman has embraced the challenge of getting Valdosta back to the national stage and has been successful in doing so. When asked what it means to play for such a historic program Seth said, “Playing at Valdosta means a lot to me because of all the history and success we have had. You’re held to a higher standard and expected to be at the top. No other school gets to call themselves the winningest high school team in America and that’s a huge honor.”

Seth has led Valdosta to a 9-1 regular season record this season and is looking to improve daily. When asked what makes him standout as a player Seth replied, “My work ethic to get better every day, being able to handle any type of situation that’s thrown at me and being a great teammate.” Aside from improving on the football field, Seth also focuses on maintaining all A’s and his baseball career. He has started on the varsity team since he was a freshman and helped the Wildcats advance to the Elite 8 this past season. Seth was named All-Region Second Team as a pitcher playing for his father who is the head coach. The baseball bloodlines run deep in the Shuman family as his brother played at Auburn and currently is playing in the minor leagues.

Head coach Rance Gillespie said that Shuman portrays great intangibles and is a leader for the Wildcats. He has won most improved offensive player during his career and looks to continue to rack up the accolades. Coach Gillespie has said that Shuman’s arm has gotten stronger and his vision has helped him succeed this season. When he is not playing sports, Seth tries to stay involved with his church.

Whichever avenue Seth decides to go down whether it is football or baseball, he will surely have a strong support system at home that will encourage and help him reach his goals.
