Player Bio

Do you remember your first varsity start and how was it?
“Yes, it came this year in the first game of the season against a team from Maryland (Eastern Christian). It was indescribable just from the atmosphere that the game brought and being able to come out on top made it even more memorable.”

Have you played OL your entire life and what made you want to play OL?
“Yes, I have played it my whole life. I wanted to play OL because you get the chance to get down and dirty in the trenches and that is what football is all about.”

What is your best asset as an OL? Is technique or strength more important in your opinion?
“Length and technique are my best assets as an OL. Technique is the most important because strength can only go so far. With better technique than a stronger guy you can use your technique to beat him. “

What is your primary OL position and how comfortable are you with other positions? What do you want to play in college?
“Tackle is my primary position, and I haven’t played any other position. But, I feel like I could play other positions if I was needed. I would like to play tackle, but I’m willing to play any position on the OL.”

Who is the most influential person in your life?
“My parents are the most influential people in my life because they’ve taught me that working hard will get you where you want to be in life as well as many other important lessons.”

How many brothers and sisters, what ages and do they play sports?
“I have one sister (Victoria), 23, who played soccer and basketball up through high school.”

Parents name and did they play sports in college?
“My parent’s names are Robin and Darren Thurmond. Neither of them played sports in college.”

Do you do any work in the community?
“I helped coach kids at youth camps in the summer.”

What colleges have shown interest in you/offered you?
“Duke and Georgia have shown interest in me. I have visited both this year and was very impressed by both.”

What do you want to study in school?
“I am not exactly sure what I want to study, but I either want to do something in sports or business.”

What has been your best football memory?
“My best football memory would probably have to be way back when I was six and scored my first and only touchdown. However, winning the state championship the past two years has been pretty memorable as well.”

Did you attend any camps this offseason? Know any of your stats/blocking grades?
“The Ole Miss camp was the only one I attended this off-season. I have 56 knockdowns through 10 games with an average of 87% blocking grade.”

Outside of playing sports, what would you want to do for a living?
“I want to be involved in something to do with sports or follow my parents footsteps and go into property management and take over my dad’s company.”

What is a fact about you many people that don’t know you, wouldn’t be able to guess?
“I have a crazy obsession with Christmas lights and my goal every year is to make my house look like this Griswold’s.”
